It is an honor for me to preside over the Merck Salud Foundation and its Board of Trustees made up of professionals of recognized prestige in the health sector in its broadest sense, who contribute and support so much.

Investment in Science and health is essential for the progress of any country. Therefore, it is important for us to support researchers. Since the beginning, this commitment has been constant, through Merck Research Grants in areas such as oncology, rare diseases, endocrinology, allergy, multiple sclerosis, cardiology, fertility, individualized precision medicine... We have already financed more than 165 projects, in which more than 85 hospitals and research centers were implicated.

In Spain we have great scientific talent and that is why we must continue to insist on this line so that future generations can take up the baton and train in scientific vocations. An example of this are the Merck Health Foundation Awards – Spanish Cancer Research Association (Aseica) with the aim of promoting, giving visibility and awakening interest in Science and Oncology among young people. 40 researchers and two educational centers were awarded for their commitment to science and dissemination.

Likewise, the Merck Salud Foundation, in April, signed the agreement for the creation of the Santiago Ramón y Cajal Chair at the University of Zaragoza, in collaboration with the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital Foundation and the Spanish Society of Pathological Anatomy, with in to advance and generate knowledge thanks to the legacy of the Nobel Prize, as an opportunity to join forces and support researchers in different projects. The call for research grants for the Cajal Chair was recently opened.

It is complemented by the training and dissemination of knowledge, to which the Foundation is also dedicated, with the preparation of monographs, reports, conferences, debate forums, etc., all actions aimed at our professionals, patients and society in general.

Likewise, the last publication, number no. The theme that this work addresses is one of the purposes of the foundation.

In terms of training, there are several actions we carry out aimed at students in Compulsory Secondary Education, such as health dissemination and awareness campaigns whose objective is to facilitate the learning of science, health and the environment among the youth population. OneHealth's latest individual health, animal, human and environmental itinerary is available.

Our work is also to support resident interns of the MIR program, with the annual Scholarship competition to carry out learning stays in national or international hospitals.

Fundación Merck Salud is part of the Council of Foundations for Science, in addition to being part of the Pact for Science and Innovation of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, it also joined the Steam Alliance “Girls on Science” of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEFP ).

Finally, join forces to make our Science better and better. In these more than 30 years we have witnessed many developments such as the advance towards precision medicine, more individualized and adapted to each patient, in the search for biomarkers that help determine the best treatment for each patient, increasing its effectiveness and avoiding side effects. unnecessary changes or the digital transformation of health systems, which is an opportunity for both citizens and professionals.

We have witnessed this and, in a humble but determined way, we have contributed and continue to contribute to the advancement of science and innovation to achieve a better future. The history of the Merck Health Foundation has a common denominator, which is to collaborate in the improvement and development of new advances for the benefit of health, standing alongside patients and healthcare professionals.
